Descrizione dell'oggetto

The Locus Solus low coffee table was designed by Gae Aulenti for Poltronova in 1964 and stands as a masterpiece of 1960s Italian Space Age design [Gae Aulenti Locus Solus table smoke glass Poltronova]. Originally conceived as part of a groundbreaking modern outdoor collection, this specific indoor version quickly became a highly coveted living room statement piece. Key Features • The Frame: A continuous, seamless tubular steel structure shaped into soft, sculptural arches that serve as both the legs and the tabletop perimeter. Indoor editions featured a premium polished chrome or glossy lacquered finish. • The Top: A thick square sheet (approx. 84x84 cm) of smoked glass in grey or bronze tones. It creates an elegant interplay of reflections and transparency with the metallic structure beneath. • The Concept: Named after Raymond Roussel’s avant-garde novel Locus Solus, the design challenges rigid functionalism. Aulenti combined Pop Art boldness with Neoliberty curves, reminiscent of 19th-century bentwood furniture.
