A pair of monumental floor garden vases, designed to furnish formal and stately interiors. The composition is conceived as an architectural ensemble, combining the elegance of a glass cup with the expressive grace of a gilded bronze structure. Ideal for floral arrangements, whether with fresh or dried or decorative flowers, these vases integrate perfectly into salons, galleries, state rooms and vestibules.
The transparent hemispherical cup is made of high-quality fine fluted glass, presumably Baccarat. The vertical groove accentuates the depth of the glass and enhances the play of light characteristic of late nineteenth-century French art glass.
The support structure is made of gilded bronze and includes a central vase-shaped base, decorative vertical columns, ring circles and a massive three-beam pedestal. The bronze elements are richly decorated with chiseled ornaments depicting palmettes, acanthus, grotesque figures and woven rope motifs. The decorative bases rest on massive lion's paws, giving monumentality and symbolic stability to the composition.
The decoration of the pedestal deserves special attention. The surfaces of the facade feature a symmetrical allegorical-trophic relief, with crossed sticks and torches, joined by garlands of beads and intertwined ribbons. The central part of the composition features an oval shield suspended by decorative tasseled cords, a reference to the classical and imperial traditions of French decorative art. The lower band of the base is decorated with a continuous relief frieze of stylized acanthus leaves, which emphasizes the curved shape of the pedestal and enhances the architectural expressiveness of the ensemble.
The combination of decorative techniques, the richness of the ornaments, and the high quality of the casting and embossing allow us to classify these planters as characteristic works of French decorative art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, created according to the aesthetics of neoclassicism and the style of Napoleon III.
