Item description

This is a stunning black lacquered wood circular room divider, of Chinese origin. The front features a rich scene of market or city life in golden and brown tones, with numerous human figures, animals and detailed architecture, framed by a decorative border. The upper part is surmounted by characters that probably indicate the title of the scene, "街市繁華圖" (lit. "Market Street Prosperity Painting"). The back is characterized by an elegant black background on which a Chinese calligraphy drawn in a lively gold color stands out, probably a poetic text or an essay, which gives the object a profound cultural and literary value. The entire panel is supported by a shaped base decorated with gold cloud motifs, which enhances its function as a distinct and impactful piece of furniture. Excellent condition, light signs of aging.
