Louis XVI wood mirror in gold leaf, 19th century
Elegant and refined Louis XVI style wooden frame with mirror. The mirror, original, was made with the ancient technique of mercury and is surrounded by the carved and gilded frame, whose design is linear and austere with a double beaded decoration. The upper part is adorned with a soft ribbon exceptionally carved. The whole is a sober masterpiece of the Louis XVI style. On the wooden frame, already carved, a mixture of gypsum (calcium carbonate), vegetable sticky resins, honey, linseed oil, and marble dust was deposited (a pastiglia process born in Italy at the end of ' 400), then the Armenian bolo (red pigmented clay powder, mixed with glue) was applied, once dried it was applied with the application of very thin gold leaves (leaf gilding). Handcrafted in France between 1835 and 1840.
