Rectangular wooden pouf. The solid mahogany structure is supported by a solid base, frontally and rear has two inlays in fine oriental wood depicting Poseidon, the god of water. The oriental wood was also used for the finishing of the base, on the front opens a large drawer equipped with lock with key. The back instead consists only of panels, the upper floor is equipped with an original cushion of the time covered with cotton fabric and upholstered. The pouf has an elegant and very sober line, it was made in Denmark between 1860 and 1870 in pure Biedermeier style. The Biedermeier style spread mainly in Austria, Germany and Nordic countries, between 1820 and 1850 characterizes the furniture and furnishings that became simpler in response to the majesty typical of the Empire style. The Biedermeier style, born after the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815) and the decline of the Napoleonic Empire, was intended in particular for the bourgeoisie, who wanted simple and functional furniture. The Biedermeier style antiques are characterized by simple and functional forms to meet the needs of the Central European bourgeoisie.
