antique Italian terracotta vase, made in the 19th century. An object with unmistakable historical charm. This type of vase was produced in the Italian olive oil regions (Liguria, Tuscany or southern Italy). Given the absence of imprinted brands, it is difficult to precisely determine the region of origin. Historically, it was used to store and transport olive oil.
The vase has the typical ovoid shape, rounded in the center and progressively narrowing towards the base and the top. The upper edge has a characteristic yellow ocher glossy enamelling. Historically, this glazing served to prevent the escape of liquids through the porous terracotta and to protect the vessel from insects. The main body is made of rough terracotta, light beige in colour, almost sandy. The surface is irregular, but shows clear signs of craftsmanship, irregularities and small defects typical of handmade objects.
The vase is in good condition and has a characteristic patina, with whitish shades and superficial discolorations due to exposure to atmospheric agents and the natural aging of the material.
This vase, with its historical charm, can now be used as a decorative garden element, ideal both as a stand-alone sculpture and as a large planter.
