Item description

Pair of Polychrome Casts on Xuan Paper – Han Dynasty Art (Jiguge, Beijing) A splendid pair of artistic rubbing casts (tàpiàn) hand-crafted on the finest xuan rice paper, reproducing the famous tomb bas-reliefs of the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). The works capture the essence of equestrian art of the period with extraordinary dynamism: the first sheet shows a rampant purple steed restrained by its trainer, while the second depicts a daring acrobatic display by a charging rider. Unlike traditional monochrome casts, the use of polychrome pigments (blue, green, and amaranth) lends a rare modern vibrancy to an age-old iconography. The set is preserved in its original vintage case from the historic Jiguge workshop in Liulichang (Beijing), a leading authority on the restoration and reproduction of Chinese antiquities since the 1950s. A lot of great cultural appeal, highly decorative and ideal for collectors of oriental art.
