Item description

This iconic radio receiver was designed in 1939 by Livio Castiglioni, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, and Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Phonola and presented at the 7th Milan Triennale. Made of Bakelite, an innovative material for its time, this five-valve radio represents a turning point in 1930s radio design, marking a shift from a purely aesthetic pursuit to a highly functional and design-driven approach. The object is distinguished by its clean lines and the innovative approach of its designers, becoming a significant example of the birth of modern Italian design. The device is functional but has reception issues; it shows signs of wear consistent with its age and the original power cord.
