French lamp in ceramic and round base in black lacquered wood; the main feature of this object is the craftsmanship of the ceramic with a "crackle" effect; the terracotta part was created with an original and ancient process: the raw terracotta piece was first modeled in its final, soft and elegant shape, then it was fired at about 1000 °, then a cracking product was used to create the cracks, at this point the ancient technique of immersion enamel in transparent green enamel was used; the glazing phase requires great skill, as it is important that the glaze is uniformly deposited on the surface of the object, so as to bring out and not cover the underlying cracks; a second firing was then carried out to definitively fix the color; the black lacquered wooden base was applied to the finished object and the electrical system was built. The lamp was made between 1920 and 1925 in an artisan workshop in Tours, in the Indre et Loire department, where the famous and ancient Sainte-Radegonde factory was located, specialized and famous precisely for the excellent production of glazed terracotta .
