Item description

The production of ceramics in Laertina reached its maximum splendour in 1600 and 1700 when, according to the land registry, there were 45 kilns and 48 workshops active in the production of expensive and precious majolica that supplied the Bourbon and Vatican orders. These noble ceramics today are the pride of many museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museun in London and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. An important element of the Laterza majolica is the elegant colour scheme, mainly Turkish on white enamel. Yellow and green rarely appear. The dish is in an "ancient" state with some dents and ancient restoration attempts. Laterza, Puglia, 18th century.
