Luigi Massoni (1930-2013) was one of Italy's most prolific designers and contributed to the growth of the country's design industry in the postwar years with his products, advertising campaigns, and journalistic work at Italian magazines. Luigi Massoni trained as an architect and designer at the Collettivo di Architettura in his hometown of Milan. In 1957 he began his design career by making, together with Carlo Mazzeri, an ice bucket and a cocktail shaker for Alessi, which are still in production. In the same year he began his collaboration with Carlo de Carli. Together with De Carli he founded the magazine "Il Mobile Italiano" and started the Biennial Furniture "Standard" in Mariano Comense. Throughout his career Massoni has served clients such as Boffi, Gabbianelli, Poltrona Frau, Sirrah, Venini and Guzzini. As artistic director of Guzzini (1963-1976), he was responsible for the company's corporate image and design policy. In this capacity he employed designers such as Gio Ponti, Gae Aulenti, and Fabio Lenci. He also designed some iconic pieces for Guzzini itself.
