A particular and elegant writing table made of the highest quality dark walnut, it has four comfortable drawers in the front, all fitted with locks and a central one with rich bronze decoration, the legs are joined by a curved X-shaped crosspiece. The top and bottom are finished with Empire-style decoration, the top is upholstered in light-coloured leather decorated at the edges with fine engravings. On the back, the desk has the same design as the front, but the drawers, unlike the front ones, are false, which allows its all-round aesthetics to be enjoyed, i.e. it can be placed not only on a wall but also in the centre of a room. Another important feature of this object are the two side shelves that can be pulled out of the table structure at will, to conveniently increase the useful work surface. The desk was made between 1840 and 1845 in a craft workshop in the French municipality of Liffon-le-Grand, located in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region, an area famous for woodworking. The period of creation was named after Louis Philippe d'Orléans; this period signified not only the time of his regency, from 1830 to 1848, but also an era with particular social, artistic and aesthetic characteristics; the sumptuous and refined furnishings typical of sovereign residences were replaced by a style more inclined to functionality and practicality, while still making the state of affluence evident; the rich Empire style after the demise of Napoleon (1814), during the Restoration period, became more linear, delicate and restrained in the size of the furniture; this table is a characteristic example of this, a discreet and original piece of furniture, capable of creating calm and tranquil atmospheres, lending romanticism and refinement to any type of furnishing. Measurements width 130 cm, depth 70 cm, height 78 cm, measurements of each individual pull-out top length 35 cm depth 52 cm. The table has been restored, so it is in good condition; we have not replaced the leather of the table top because its patina and its small stains and imperfections tell the story of the object, make it truly seductive and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity. For all shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
