Francesco Baracca SPAD S.XIII wooden model, 1940s



























Francesco Baracca (Lugo, 9 May 1888 - Nervesa, 19 June 1918) was the leading ace of the Italian Air Force during the First World War, during which he was credited with thirty-four shoot-downs of enemy aircraft, the highest number ever achieved by an aviator of the Italian Air Force. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour... Represented in this large model (approx. 1/18th), handmade in the first half of the 20th century. The woods used are solid walnut and oak. The metal details, such as propeller, spokes, wheels and wing suspension, are made of hand-wrought soft iron and brass. Both wheels and propeller turn regularly. It is hand-painted and can be standing or suspended by means of the cables provided.
