Louis XVI mirror with carved and gilded wooden coping of Piedmontese provenance, 164 x 104 cm; light, 90 x 70 cm. The Louis XVI mirror under examination, clearly of Piedmontese manufacture, is made of carved and gilded wood and has a pierced cornice decorated with scroll friezes at the top. The Louis XVI style in furniture predates by a few years the reign of Louis XVI (1774-1793), from whom it takes its name, and is characterised by the renunciation of rounded and extroverted forms in favour of a straight, simpler, sober and geometric line, inspired by Greco-Roman classicism. Even today, Louis XVI furniture is synonymous with elegance and prestige. The furnishings from this era therefore follow a simple yet elegant and refined taste, and are meticulously detailed with extreme precision, as we can also see in this mirror. The technical perfection of their execution is so high that it is almost impossible to create copies, which is why it is very rare for Louis XVI style frames and furniture to be faked. The Louis XVI style was considered the golden age of French furniture, where demand from the aristocracy was high and frequent. The object is in good condition.
