Chinese funerary statuettes, IX century
Item description
Two Chinese statuettes from the finely modeled and painted terracotta tang period depicting a man/boy and a woman. The first wears a panty (as a fighter of submos?) Carminio color, a white stole bordered by a blue frame with a blue setting, and in the head a headdress similar to a fabric hood in two shades of greenery. The feet without shoes, the body in a slightly pending position, a relaxed arm at the bottom and the other to hold the stolae the panty/shorts. The second wears an elegant long tunic until it covers the black feet above a red short -sleeved shirt, knotted in life. The boss is discovered, with brown hair collected behind. The right hand is held under the chin and left arm required to cover the abdomen. His face was painted with great precision, with carefully detailed eyes, nose and mouth. Signs of usury consistent with its age, as small flaking and chipping. Funeral assets like these statuettes were an important Symbol status in ancient China, so the rich and important people were accompanied on their travels in the afterlife by numerous depictions of people, objects and animals. These terracotta figures were made for the owner's service and entertainment, ensuring that their journey into the underworld was peaceful and happy. They curiously remember the practice of the ancient Egyptians with their ushabti.
