Davenport English writing desk in walnut root, 19th century











This specimen is a Davenport as a desk dating back to the Victorian period (about half-until the nineteenth century), made with walnut root veneer on a solid wood structure. Structure and materials: Main body: the body of the mobile has a "lateral chest of drawer" configuration, with a series of vertical drawers arranged on the right side, hidden by panels veneered in walnut root. Written plan: the upper floor is smoothly smoothly. The writing surface is covered in red leather and has a modeled edge in solid walnut. By lifting the sliding surface you access a compartment below. Walnut root: The walnut root veneer is applied with the traditional technique of the time, highlighting the intricate and decorative natural veins of the wood. The finish is in shellac. Decorative elements: the cabinet has decorative intakes of vegetable inspiration made in solid wood and inlays in maple woods.
