Item description

This iconic and generously sized ceiling light features a metal frame with trapezoidal crystal elements in a vibrant, luminous yellow. At the center, a round concave glass diffuser ensures even light distribution. The back, made of white enameled metal, has two holes for easy mounting—allowing the fixture to be installed on the ceiling or used as a wall sconce. A central hole at the rear allows electrical wires to pass through and connect to an internal socket holder equipped with three bulb sockets. Manufactured between 1970 and 1973 by the Italian company Veca (the original Veca label is affixed inside the metal frame, see photos), this piece may have resulted from a collaboration with Fontana Arte. Veca is an Italian manufacturer known for producing glass and metal bathroom accessories, especially active during the mid-20th-century modern design era. Although little is documented about the company’s history, it stood out for the quality and elegance of its products, often featuring colored glass and chrome metal finishes. Fontana Arte, founded in Milan in 1932 by Luigi Fontana and Gio Ponti, is a leading name in Italian design. Specializing in glass craftsmanship and decorative furnishings, the company is especially renowned for its innovative lighting designs. During the 1960s and 1970s, Fontana Arte worked with many prominent designers, always keeping glass as the signature material in its creations. Although no official documentation confirms a long-term or direct partnership between Veca and Fontana Arte, it is plausible that Veca supplied components or produced pieces for Fontana Arte at certain times, given their shared expertise in glass and metalwork. Elegant, refined, and highly functional, this ceiling light creates warm, ethereal, and enveloping atmospheres—casting a glow that captures the eye and imagination. With its minimalist design, clean lines, and balanced arrangement of crystal panels, it stands as a unique and versatile decorative object, perfect for any interior setting. More than just a lighting fixture, it is a true statement of style. The ceiling light is in good vintage condition, showing some age-related marks such as light oxidation on the internal socket holders and nickel-plated components, as well as a few stains under the crystal panels. The European-standard wiring is easy to connect—just attach the electrical wires to the terminal block linked to the sockets, and run them through the rear central hole to connect with your wall outlet.
