Elegant and refined pair of Italian walnut nightstands, crafted between 1930 and 1935 in an artisanal workshop in Cantù, a town in the Lombardy region, province of Como. Each nightstand features an open compartment beneath the top surface and a small drawer. The lower section offers generous storage space enclosed by a door, both the drawer and the door fitted with their original period brass handles. The sturdy front legs are shaped in classic Art Deco style, while the rear legs, less visible, have a simpler rectangular form. The structure is made of solid walnut and finished with a fine-quality veneer of Juglans regia—also known as European or Italian walnut—notable for its unusual thickness and durability. The interiors of the drawer and lower compartment are veneered in a warm blond walnut, creating a pleasing contrast in tone. Both nightstands have been carefully restored by our team of artisans using traditional techniques that enhance the warm hues, grain patterns, and figuring of the wood. Cantù has long been celebrated for its excellence in fine furniture making and is recognized internationally as one of Italy’s foremost centers of artisanal woodworking. Its workshops and manufacturers have historically supplied bespoke furnishings to discerning private clients, luxury hotels, exclusive restaurants, and prestigious residences worldwide. These nightstands are now in excellent condition. Dimensions: Width 53 cm (20.9 in), depth 35 cm (13.8 in), height 60 cm (23.6 in).
