An exceptionally elegant and distinctive glass table lamp designed by Michael Bang for Holmegaard in Denmark in the 1970s. The lamp base has an organic, asymmetrical shape typical of Scandinavian design of that period, which was often inspired by nature and fluid forms. It is made of mouth-blown art glass in a deep navy blue color, interwoven with subtle, lighter reflections that play beautifully with the light and give the object a sense of movement and lightness. At the top of the base is a brass collar that introduces a material contrast – the warm sheen of the metal harmonizes with the cool glass, while adding a sophisticated, luxurious character to the lamp. The whole is crowned with a simple, classic lampshade that complements the modernist aesthetics. It is an example of Scandinavian design at its best – functional and yet full of artistic expression.
