Marble clock made in France between 1930 and 1935 when Art Decò was at its height. It has a symmetrical shape with sharp, energetic, and compact geometries inspired by the ancient Egyptian and Pre-Columbian civilizations. The design is elegant and accurate, precious also in the choice of materials: red onyx from Tanzania (a rare and very expensive type of precious marble, which expresses the best of itself in the production of wall coverings and luxury objects), the refined dark inlays are made with Portoro marble extracted in Liguria (Italy), better known as Portovenere marble, whose history links it to the Etruscan and Roman civilizations. The Romans loved it immensely for its captivating decorative aspect and used it for art objects and furnishings that over the centuries have embellished the homes of kings and emperors. To elegantly frame the dial, protected by an opening glass, a light golden brass decoration has been applied. On the back, there is a graceful golden and open-worked door to access the internal device. All in all a very particular watch, aggressive and fine at the same time, an exclusive and unique object. It can be used as a table or desk clock but also placed over a fireplace. The object, with its size, is very heavy but is supported by strong golden brass feet. The mechanism is original and intact, as the key, but needs a simple overhaul and oiling.
