Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula – Justus Danckerts, Amsterdam, ca. 1680–1690 (hand-colored copper world map, trimmed)
Exceptional baroque decorative globe from the Dutch Golden Age – double hemisphere projection with rich allegorical scenes in the corners (battles, discoveries, mythological figures). Original copper engraving from the end of the 17th century, hand colored, with authentic period patina and authentic traces of time. Publisher: Justus Danckerts, Amsterdam.
**Detail:** This magnificent map titled "Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula" presents the world in two main hemispheres, complemented by two smaller polar maps and four beautiful decorative vignettes in the corners symbolizing the elements, exploration and mythology (including battle scenes, ships, exotic animals and figures). The geography reflects knowledge of the period: California as an island, incomplete Australia and New Zealand, and the legendary Terra Australis. This is an **original copper engraving** from the workshop of Justus Danckerts (1635–1701), Amsterdam, dated circa 1680–1690. The title appears in a wreath of serpents: "Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula Amstelodami per I. Danckerts cum Privil". – a classic variant based on the model by Frederick de Wit (1668).
This is not a modern reproduction, it is an authentic late 17th century antique. If you're looking for a completely unfinished example, those are rarer and more expensive. Very good for its age, hand coloring is well preserved, patina consistent with the age (flowering, folds, light discoloration), no major defects in the engraved area. The paper shows the characteristics of 17th century handmade material.
