Item description

An elegant 19th century French mantel clock crafted in finely cast gilt bronze. The composition features a sculptural figure of a mother seated with a child reading, a tender allegorical scene typical of French decorative arts of the period. The clock rests on a richly decorated rectangular base with detailed relief depicting a classical hunting scene with figures and lions, adding depth and narrative to the design. The white porcelain dial with Roman numerals is framed by ornate bronze decoration and topped with a finely sculpted musical trophy motif. The movement strikes the half and full hour and is housed behind the original bell. A refined and decorative example of French 19th century clockmaking, combining sculpture and horology.Provenance: Formerly in a European private collection; acquired on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
