Item description

This refined sideboard with bar cabinet is an iconic piece of mid-century Italian design, designed by Osvaldo Borsani for the family-owned company, Arredamenti Borsani Varedo (ABV), between the late 1940s and early 1950s. Specifically, this sideboard was created for the Fratelli Turri Carego furniture factory and the retailer Corsaro in Naples. The piece embodies the decorative luxury typical of Borsani before Tecno's industrial breakthrough, combining a rigorous architectural structure with dramatic interiors. Dimensions: width 178 cm, depth 45 cm, height 146.5 cm. Main Features External Configuration: The central structure features a drop-down door with a grissini finish or ebonized decorations, located above a base of four drawers. The upper section features three folding doors that optimize the opening space. Materials and Details: Woods: The exterior is rosewood, while the interior is entirely lined with blond maple, creating a luminous contrast when opened. Brass Finishes: The contoured handles, hinges, and characteristic "tips" (feet) are crafted from brass, a trademark of Borsani production from that period. Bar Compartment: The interior of the bar compartment is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, enhanced by mirrors and glass shelves. Production: Made in Varedo, the historic headquarters of the Borsani Atelier. These pieces were often made for private commissions or for complete furnishings, making them rare on the modern antiques market.
