Item description

Splendid pair of DS3 model chairs (also known as the Basset-Lowke model), designed by the famous Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1918 and officially produced by Cassina starting from 1975 within the prestigious "I Maestri" collection. This specific model is currently out of production, which makes it a very rare piece to find on the collectors' and modern antiques market. The chairs have a solid structure in black-stained ash wood with an open-pore finish. The backrest is characterized by the iconic geometric grid embellished, in the upper part, with refined square inserts in real mother of pearl, all perfectly intact and shiny. The seat retains the original paper rope (straw) weaving in excellent conditions of tension and cleanliness. Under the structure of both chairs there are the original hot-stamped hallmarks which certify the authenticity: the brand of the Cassina I Maestri collection, the designer's signature and the progressive production serial number. Dimensions: Total height: 75 cm Width: 49cm Depth: 45 cm Seat height: 45 cm Condition of the object: Excellent vintage condition. The wood shows only minimal and normal signs of aging which do not compromise its aesthetics or stability. Seats intact.
