Pacem Te Poscimus Omnes, a collection of statements
on the peace of important personalities, accompanied by lithographs by Renzo VESPIGNANI. Numbered 44/250. The Swan Publisher. Rome, 1989.
The work presents itself as an imposing pacifist anthology from the end of the Cold War: it collects appeals, messages, and reflections on the theme of universal peace from world leaders on opposing sides, precisely during the period of the thaw between the USA and the USSR. The Latin title «Pacem te poscimus omnes» evokes a choral invocation to peace. Each intervention is accompanied by a work by Renzo Vespignani.
In this collection, documents by Nilde Jotti, John Paul II, Mikhail Gorbachev, François Mitterrand, Robert McNamara, Pérez Esquivel, Essam Galal, Angel Balevski, Sheveleth Freier, Vitalii Goldanskii, Herbert York, Zhou Peiyuan, Joseph Rotblat, Vladimir Zakharov, Kai Siegbahn, Gösta Ekspong, Simon van der Meer, Victor F. Weisskopf, Maurice Shapiro, Renzo Vespignani.
This volume is produced by the Il Cigno Art Printing House in Rome in a number of 250 copies printed on special watermarked paper for engravings using the etching and aquatint process on hand presses. Renzo Vespignani's drawings were printed in lithography.
The work is in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. It bears light and negligible traces of time and use on the case.
