Item description

An original Artona three-seat sofa, designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto in 1975, from the iconic Artona collection. The Artona series is regarded as one of Maxalto's most celebrated early collections, distinguished by its exceptional craftsmanship and refined use of fine woods. The sculptural solid walnut frame is enhanced by elegant ebony inlays, a defining characteristic of the collection and a testament to the meticulous Italian cabinetmaking tradition of the period. The sofa was professionally restored in 2019, preserving its original design while renewing all upholstery materials to ensure many more years of comfortable use. Restoration Reupholstered in premium full-grain leather (CAT 3000), thick ivory / cream colour. Original stitching pattern faithfully reproduced. Foam padding professionally renewed and reinforced. Seat and back cushions refilled and reinforced with goose down for enhanced comfort while maintaining the original appearance. Condition The sofa is in excellent vintage condition. The leather upholstery remains beautifully preserved. The wooden frame shows only minor signs of age, including light wear and a few small chips consistent with careful use over nearly five decades. Structurally sound and ready for everyday use or collection.
