A decorative Italian table lamp produced by Fratelli Fanciullacci, one of the most respected manufacturers of Italian artistic ceramics. The lamp’s form combines the sculptural quality characteristic of mid-century Italian design with decoration inspired by figurative art. The ceramic base has a slender silhouette that tapers toward the top, covered with a rich texture and geometric ornamentation in shades of silvery gray. The most striking element is a wide decorative band running around the body, depicting stylized, dynamic human figures surrounded by abstract, geometric forms. Multicolored accents of blue, purple, red, and white enliven the monochromatic ceramic surface and give the lamp an almost illustrative character. The relief decoration, juxtaposed with the more austere part of the body, creates a distinct contrast in textures. The whole is complemented by an originally preserved, pleated lampshade in graphite, whose regular, deep folds emphasize the vertical rhythm of the base. The combination of ceramic, relief decoration, and a pleated fabric shade fits perfectly into the aesthetic of 1960s Italian design. Fratelli Fanciullacci lamps from this period are well-recognized among collectors of Italian ceramics and mid-century lighting. This is a particularly interesting piece due to its figurative decoration, which has an almost sculptural character and constitutes the lamp’s main artistic merit.
