This folding chair by Viganò is based on the prototypes of folding chairs created in the 19th century by J.B. Fendy, who in turn was inspired by traditional Berber chairs. The Tripolina chair was made before the Second World War by Viganò's company in Tripoli, Libya, for the Italian market abroad as a camping chair of great stability on sand and made of local wood and leather. This first folding chair from the late 19th century, 1881, inspired many designers, the best known example being the 'Butterfly chair'. The frame of this pair of chairs is in a completely original state and has a beautiful patina. Originally the Tripolina, or Butterfly, was made for the concept of safaris in Africa. Not being able to carry armchairs or chairs, J.B. Fendy had made this chair accessible and transportable anywhere. Caramel colour. This version is made of brown leather and teak wood.
