Item description

Simple but fascinating pair of toilette bottles; a crystal with a lead content of 30 percent was used in their execution; the high lead content, which replaces the calcium found in ordinary glass, gives the crystal considerable hardness, exceptional transparency and a high refractive index; they were cut and shaped, but not ground, leaving the crystal smooth, then meticulous hand polishing was carried out to make the crystal even brighter and more transparent; the bottles are fitted with a silver lid and a crystal stopper to achieve an airtight closure of the bottles so that they can hold salts, essences and perfumes so that these are not in contact with air and lose their characteristics. The lids and their application on the bottles are handcrafted in silver, with a sober and elegant design; they were made between 1930 and 1935 in a silverware workshop in Florence; unfortunately, the hallmark that would allow us to identify the craftsman who made them is illegible, while the 800-millesimal silver hallmark is well stamped. For the body of the bottles, splendid crystal from Colle di Val d'Elsa (Siena), the area most famous in Italy for its high concentration of factories and artisans specializing in crystal working, known worldwide for the very high quality of their production, was used. These two objects, elegant and refined, will add a touch of sophistication to any bathroom or bedroom. The bottles are in good condition.
