Item description

Pair of wooden bedside tables; the whole front instead of being straight and linear is "wavy", and to give greater prominence to this aspect, the craftsmen have arranged the wood of the doors with horizontal veins, enhancing the wavy aesthetic in an intelligent and significant way; for each bedside table, the upper shelf has two straight and two wavy sides, and the functional space below is divided by a large compartment closed by a door and by an external space with a small and practical exposed shelf; the bedside table has four solid shaped feet in black lacquered wood, the two front ones are joined by an ornamental crosspiece also in black lacquered wood; the doors close by pressure and are equipped with two brass handles in the shape of a woven flower; one of these had lost the central part, replaced over time by a screw. Sapele was used for the construction of these two pieces of furniture, a prestigious reddish-colored wood similar to mahogany from equatorial Africa. This sophisticated material has a dense weave and intertwined fibers, fine and uniform and with a good natural sheen. It is a sturdy type of wood, rather flexible, hard and compact. It is usually used for luxury furniture and wardrobes, but also for the furnishing of yachts and boats and for sophisticated and expensive musical instruments. The entire structure was made of raw Sapele, which was then veneered with the same wood, but using the most precious part of Sapele, the one that has multiple natural veins that are always different; the part subjected to polishing was able to enhance the chromatism and the flaming of this exceptional exotic wood. The bedside tables have been hand-treated with ancient restoration techniques by a team of craftsmen and are in excellent condition.
