A poplar wood panel inlaid with maple, rosewood, walnut, walnut burl, ash, boxwood, mahogany, green-stained maple, ivory and mother-of-pearl made by the Lombard cabinet-maker Luigi Mascaroni, also known as Mascheroni, depicting a pastoral scene taken from an engraving by the Milanese painter Francesco Londonio, author of the famous 'presepe' preserved in the Milanese church of San Marco. The work is signed at the bottom with two burin engravings. In creating the two paintings, the artist used materials that had never before been used in furniture marquetry, such as ivory and mother-of-pearl, making it a unique work of its kind. Work published in several volumes dedicated to the history of neoclassical Milanese furniture. Possibility of purchasing the pair of panels at a negotiable price.
