Item description

Unique and original French desk clock; the special feature of this object is the use of different marbles in its construction: Rosalia Lucido marble was used for the round dial, the front structure is made of Red Onyx, and the back part also made of Red Onyx but of a lighter shade, and the base and linear decorations on the front are made of Nero Marquinia. Rosalia Lucido marble, has a very delicate creamy white background crisscrossed by a more or less dense pattern of red or orange veins conformed like arabesques; it comes from quarries in Turkey, but the finishing and polishing work is carried out in the Carrara area (Italy); it is a marble known since ancient times by the peoples of the Black Sea, the Phoenicians first and the Romans later made it known and appreciated by the Mediterranean peoples as well; the Red Onyx that comes from Tanzania, a rare and very expensive type of fine marble that is at its best in the making of luxury wall coverings and objects; Nero Marquinia, is a high-quality, fine-grained stone material with a deep black color, extracted from the Markina region, Basque Country in northern Spain, is one of the most famous and appreciated natural stones in the world, is widely used for fine ornamental work. The bird placed on the left side of the dial was made with a sophisticated casting of a metal alloy, then finished by hand to give it a delicate and graceful shape, then underwent a delicate and complex treatment with special acids and secrets to make it take on elegant bronze-colored hues, the artisans managed to subdue the metal to their artistic sensibility creating a unique and fantastic little object. Very original are the hands and hour symbols made of burnished copper, the dial is protected by a concave glass, which can be removed for cleaning. The movement, fully functional, is housed on the back of the watch, the small knurled wheel allows the hands to move. The clock was made in France between 1930 and 1935 in the commune of Mondelange in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region, where there were workshops for the artistic working of marble; at that time Art Deco was at its peak, in fact, the object has a symmetrical, energetic and compact shape with sharp geometries, the design is elegant and neat, precious even in the choice of materials. Overall a very distinctive clock, aggressive and refined at the same time, an exclusive and unique object. It can be used as a table or desk clock but also placed over a fireplace. The clock is in perfect condition, the marble part has no chips or breaks. Measures width cm.40, height cm.25, depth cm.10.
