Item description

Erika Robotron model 50 Erika case typewriter produced by the East German company Robotron Import-Export Volkseigener Aussenhandelsbetrieb der DDR Berlin. This model 4702808 was produced in 1976. It was the basis and inspiration for the production of many other machines such as Optima, Prasident, Aztecs, CBM, Robotron etc. The 50/60 series machines, representing the fifth and sixth generation of Erika machines, are the undisputed model of the typewriter and are considered the canon of industrial design. The Erika company is one of the most important manufacturers of marking machines in history and the 30/40 series machines are exhibited in many art museums around the world. The specimen is preserved in very good condition with slight traces of use. The machine is in working order, requiring only the replacement of the belt, which has already dried out due to its age. The machine was intended for the Polish market with a Polish character. Dimensions with case: height 15 cm | width 38 cm | depth 38 cm. Dimensions without case: height 14 cm | width 34 cm | depth 35 cm. The first practical typewriter was built by the American Christopher Latham Sholes in 1867. Among the first authors to write their works with a typewriter were Mark Twain (who wrote the novel 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' this way), Leo Tolstoy and Bolesław Prus. Typewriters, once so common, have been replaced by computers and printers. The last typewriter factory was located in India. It was closed in 2011. Today, typewriters are unique collectors' items that can make an interesting piece of furniture.
