The design of this coffee table starts from the desire to revisit the design of a late 19th century archetype belonging to the folding outdoor table typology. In the re-design of this piece, Castiglioni concentrated attention on detail elements to perfect and enhance the product's functionality. Towards the end of the 1970s Zanotta embarked on a new path of research aimed at identifying and recovering objects of anonymous origin from the past, 'already seen' but to be revisited and re-proposed in a contemporary key. With this in mind, in 1978 Zanotta proposed to Marco Zanuso to deal with the redesign of a 'familiar' folding outdoor chair whose model had been found in a second-hand furniture shop. Interpreting the concept of re-design in the best possible way, Zanuso introduced improvements with his project to enhance the functional characteristics and comfort of the seat. For the latter he proposes a very refined solution by covering the slats, originally made of sheet metal, with a noble and valuable material such as leather. Very compact when closed it can be easily stored and transported, also suitable for outdoor use. The Zanotta company was founded in 1954 by Aurelio Zanotta 'la Zanotta', as they say in Nova Milanese, a town on the outskirts of Monza, is today one of the most brilliant realities in the world of furniture and design. From the beginning of its history, the fundamental principle that has guided the company's growth has been the rejection of profit for its own sake, considered sterile if not accompanied by a higher purpose. Aurelio Zanotta's great intuition was precisely this... by producing furniture you can also produce culture. At a time when, thanks to the economic boom, it became necessary to satisfy the needs of an ever larger public, it was a question of deciding whether to focus on quantity or quality, and in a certain sense to educate and direct those needs. Collaboration with architects of the calibre of Ettore Sottsass, Marco Zanuso and Achille Castiglioni gave rise to what is now universally recognised as 'Italian design' and its furniture has been awarded the most prestigious prizes and exhibited in the world's best museums. With a piece of Zanotta furniture you adopt a lifestyle, and you enrich your home with a piece that will inhabit it for a very long time.
