Magnificent white marble female figure from the early Art Deco era depicting the snake charmer 'Charmeuse de Serpent' by Guglielmo Pugi, created around 1910. The naked snake charmer is kneeling on a rug with carved motifs as she leans forward towards the snake, which has been lost in this statue, on a marble base. At her base there should be a snake and in her hands the enchantress was originally equipped with a bronze flute. Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915) was born in Fiesole, a small town near Florence. He was a highly regarded and skilled sculptor, specialising in female figures and busts.
