A beautiful ceramic figurine from the 'Signs of the Zodiac' collection, made in the early 20th century from Capodimonte ceramic painted in gold. Capodimonte is a type of Italian porcelain first developed in the 18th century. It is known for its bright colours, intricate details and striking designs with flowers, animals or mythical figures. Its production requires incredible craftsmanship, as each piece must be hand-painted to create unique designs. This is why Capodimonte pieces are highly sought-after and valuable due to their rarity. The base is spherical in shape, with a simply splendid gold surround. At the base of the feet is the sign of the zodiac represented by this statue: Cancer. One leg is slightly forward of the other, entirely wrapped in a golden robe. It is believed that the zodiac sign of Cancer is represented with a horn because it symbolises the hard protective shell of the crab. The use of this symbol dates back to antiquity, as it was considered an attribute of protection and strength. In astrology, Cancer is ruled by the Moon and its element is water, so the horn shape represents its receptive nature. Furthermore, in some cultures, horns represent fertility and abundance. For this reason, the horn indicates that those born under the sign of Cancer are often seen as unwavering in their determination and ambition to succeed.
