Item description

Iconic pair of abat-jours with an eyeball design in Space Age style. They are made of aluminium, which makes them light and easy to handle. They then underwent a very special treatment, in fact a very transparent red fire paint was used which, by depositing itself on the white aluminium, gave the two lamps an extraordinary and unusual shiny effect (we must confess that this effect created quite a few problems for the photos). The shape of the body, which is internally white, directs the light in an optimal and discreet way so as not to disturb the user who uses them as abat-jours on the bedside table and switches them on from the bed. They have no trademarks or labels, but we can attribute them with certainty to the Dutch company Gebroeders Posthuma of Amsterdam, who made them between 1970 and 1975. Gebroeders Posthuma was a family business founded in 1965 in Amsterdam by the Posthuma brothers, whose name 'Gepo' comes from the combination of Gebroeders Posthuma. The two brothers founded their company with very little capital, which today would correspond to 35 euros (borrowed from their mother). In 1972, the company reached a turnover of no less than 1 million euros! The aim was to produce lighting objects of excellent quality, but at democratic prices. They specialised in the design of floor, wall, table and arc lamps, but all with the typical Space Age design. Little is known about Gepo, but one thing is certain: their well-known products are one by one beautiful, elegant and timeless pieces of design. Gepo ended its activity in the early 1980s. The Space Age style begins a journey into the past that turns to the future and fantasises about technological images in space; the spherical shape predominates for most of the decoration and lighting, often if several spheres are linked together, they explicitly recall the shape of the atom. In the Space Age style it is also very common to use reflective materials, especially for lamps, to recall the typical colours of space technology: steel, nickel, aluminium and silver. Our abat-jours are developed around soft and essential circular elements that fit perfectly and can be well contextualised in any room, giving that touch of originality and distinctiveness that warms the room. Their 1970s design leaves room for freedom and innovation, they are unique pieces to be displayed with care and to be told, they are not just lamps, they are much more. Measurements diameter 18 cm, height 20 cm. The items are in good condition The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, voltage compatibility in other countries should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the items.
