Item description

A Murano glass tray or ashtray with an elongated and slender shape. The design is essential but well-proportioned and elegant, pleasing to the eye is the shaded effect of the colours that the craftsmen managed to achieve with skill and mastery. This object was made by the Murano masters using the 'incamiciatura' technique, which consists of superimposing, as a first process, one or more successive layers of differently coloured glass on the glass mass coming out of the furnace. In our object, two colours were superimposed on the white opaline glass mass, a dark brown and a light brown, by immersing the white form just sketched in two crucibles containing the molten glass of the two colours. Then the master glassmaker would put the whole thing back into the furnace for a few minutes and then, blowing into the special barrel, using pliers and working it by hand, he would give the emptying pots the desired shape; this operation was done flat, so it was much more difficult to get the different colours to blend. The object was therefore made entirely by hand and without the use of moulds or models, thus creating a unique piece, just like a work of art. The first evidence of this technique relates to Benedetto Barbaria, who in 1815 produced a 'glass blown with two layers of enamel'. The empty pockets were created between 1960 and 1964 with experience and unparalleled skill by a great Murano master in a magical, fascinating and artistic place: an artisan furnace in Murano. However, whoever the maker is, the creation of this vase confirms that the Venetian aptitude, celebrated over the centuries, for working glass is an alchemic marriage between the material elaborated by craftsmanship and happy artistic intuition; since ancient times, Venetian craftsmen have been protecting and handing down the Art of Glass, always giving us precious and unique works that fascinate us with their beauty. Length 28 cm, depth 20 cm and height 5 cm. The object is in good condition, on the bottom it has a protection to prevent it from scratching the supporting surfaces. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
