The dome that contains the lamp holder is made up of half crystal worked in a particular way, in fact the glassmaker has exploited the hundreds of air bubbles present in the glass mass during the fusion and has managed to transform the glass into a spongy agglomerate with holes, compact and opaque; this type of inclusion makes the glass look like a piece of ice; the particular composition of the crystal allows the light to spread in a unique and original way, in fact when it is turned on the lamp projects a beautiful light in the surrounding space creating a welcoming warmth, and with its frozen appearance it plays with the natural light (from the sun) even when it is off. The base is made of "Bianco di Carrara", a type of marble extracted from the quarries of the Apuan Alps in the Carrara area (Italy), universally known as one of the finest marbles in the world. It is one of the varieties of the famous "living stone". The lamp was created in a specialized lighting laboratory in Milan (Italy) between 1950 and 1953.
