Item description

Pair of stools in the style of Paolo Buffa, 1960s. The whole structure is solid; the elegantly shaped legs are an integral and important part of the entire project and with their inclination they make the stools very stable. The legs have a rare constructive peculiarity: the core is in wood and the external covering is in brass (see photo). These stools were created between 1960 and 1965 in Brianza (Lombardy, Italy), a historic place known for its designer furniture made with great craftsmanship. The craftsmen were inspired by the style of Paolo Buffa, with the desire to design two small-sized objects favoring the idea of comfort and intimacy, and gave the stools a timeless originality, following the fashion of those years. We know for certain that the architect Buffa made use of Lombard workers of recognized skill for the construction of his furniture, who used very refined materials, also because the objects were mainly intended for the apartments of the rich Milanese bourgeoisie. These stools with their characteristics of quality, accuracy and finish, have certainly been made by those master craftsmen. Paolo Buffa (1903-1970) was an Italian architect and designer known for his mid-century furniture designs. More than a forerunner, he is a faithful spokesman for the taste of his time: first neoclassical and then "novecentista". Buffa was highly regarded internationally for its exquisite design and rigorous execution. Before his death in 1970 in Milan Buffa was regarded as one of the leading designers of the country. The structure of the stools has been left in its original condition while the seat has been upholstered with an iconic and sophisticated "cut velvet" with a unique geometric cut pattern by Designer Guild; the motif is Quarenghi-Cacao, one of the best fabrics of the company (see original photo of the brand set). Color and classicism are reinterpreted in a contemporary key in fabrics and wallpapers with a great decorative impact. This, and much more, is the Designers Guild. Founded in 1970 by Tricia Guild, they are an international home and lifestyle company, with headquarters and showrooms in London's Kings Road and Marylebone High Street with own stores around the world. Seat height: 41 cm.
