Late 19th century art print taken from a drawing reproducing Gerolamo Induno's 1878 oil painting "The Departure of the Conscripts in 1866." The painting is currently kept at the Museo del Risorgimento in Milan. The work was commissioned by King Victor Emmanuel II and presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878 under the title "Italie, 1866". There is an autographed replica of this painting that was exhibited at the national exhibition of fine arts held in Milan in 1881, now kept at the Borgogna Foundation in Vercelli. It was the latter, in all likelihood, that served as the model for the drawing replicated in print by Centenari Incise (initials at lower right). The print was recently placed inside a gilded frame.
