Solid poplar folding kitchen table, mid-19th century. It is very simple and linear, featuring solid turned legs and equipped with a drawer and practical inside compartment. The top opens like the page of a book and doubles in size to accommodate more guests at the table. This type of table in the 19th century was used in Italian family kitchens and women would prepare the dough for the pasta on the open top and leave it in the inner compartment while it was rising. The dimensions of the open top are 140 x 110 cm. There are some signs of wear, especially on the top when open; one leg is slightly crooked due to the passage of time but it is a defect that does not affect stability.
