Black leather Maralunga three-seater sofa by Vico Magistretti for Cassina, 1980s. The two-seater version is also available (for further information contact the seller). The leather is in excellent condition and the cushion lift mechanism works perfectly. Seat height: 43 cm. Maralunga by Cassina is one of the most emblematic sofas of Italian design that has inspired generations of designers. Designed in 1973 by the famous Italian designer and architect Vico Magistretti (1920 – 2006), it is still an undeniable international bestseller. Magistretti was looking for a design that fully responded to his high demands for extreme comfort: the embrace of a warm and comfortable piece of furniture; from this idea was born the incomparable Maralunga sofa, winner of the Compasso D'Oro in 1979. The backrest of the Maralunga can be folded, this is possible by introducing the variation in the height of the headrest thanks to the insertion of a simple bicycle chain in the foam ; a cutting-edge construction mechanism patented by Cassina, which allows the immediate conversion of the backrest from low to high adjustment. The Maralunga is a timeless piece of furniture that has become a well-known design classic included in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
