Item description
Pair of Artona bedside tables by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, 1970s. Veneered wood with walnut slats, folding top in briar-root, brass details. The Artona collection presents a unique line combining wood with other precious materials, such as lacquer and leather, treated with exclusive Maxalto techniques. From the iconic pieces designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa to the new interpretation of modernism by Antonio Citterio, Maxalto has followed the evolution of high-end furniture design for over 40 years. Founded in 1975 together with B&B Italia, Maxalto quickly developed a personal identity in the specialized production of handcrafted furniture. The brand's formal research looks to the past, with a revisitation of classic styles. Afra and Tobia Scarpa were its first interpreters, designing a series of wooden furniture using ancient and rare production processes, typical of cabinet-making and violin making. The result was extremely surprising for its sculptural effect.
