Set of six Monk chairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Molteni, 1970s (launched 1973). With a walnut structure and raw canvas covering, these chairs are characterized by essential and geometric lines, with a style that has always defined the famous designer couple and which is also found in the 121 chairs for Cassina or the Africa chairs for Maxalto. Increasingly rare and extremely sought after, Monk chairs are a timeless example of Italian design and are suitable for virtually any interior: a wabi sabi, a minimal country retreat, a townhouse furnished with the finest collectibles. These six chairs are in original, untouched condition and show signs of age. Although the structure is in good condition, the canvas has some stains and discolorations. There are no structural problems but you may want to reupholster them if what you are looking for is a perfect item. Seat height: 43 cm.
