Pair of Renaissance style Savonarola armchairs, late 19th century
Pair of Renaissance style Savonarola/Dante armchairs of two different sizes, late 19th century (1880-90). The largest, in walnut, has an X-shaped base, decorated with foliage and scrolls, and joined by a grotesque head. The armrests, which extend above the backrest, are carved with fantastic creatures and scrolls and are topped with feathers; the upper part is decorated with the same elements. The seat is in good condition and sturdy. This armchair is in excellent original condition, consistent with age and use. It is 103 cm high, 64 cm wide and 62 cm deep; it weighs approximately 9 kg. Even the smaller one is in Renaissance style; the structure and ornaments underline its representative character. The seat is in good condition and sturdy. This armchair is in excellent original condition despite some cracks which have been repaired (see photos) and which are consistent with age and use. It is 85 cm high, 60 cm wide and 54 cm deep; it weighs approximately 6 kg. Both armchairs have been refreshed with wax.
