Art Deco Reclining Armchairs and Ottoman by Pál Vágó, Hungary 1930s

This exceptional three-piece lounge set – consisting of two reclining armchairs (Kanadier type) and a matching ottoman – is attributed to Pál Vágó, one of the leading figures of Hungarian modernist furniture design between the two world wars. A remarkable example of Hungarian Art Deco, the set features bold, curved walnut arms and high-quality black walnut veneer detailing. Pál Vágó (1886–1948), a Hungarian architect and furniture designer, was known for blending functionalism with elegant, decorative forms. He often worked alongside his brother, László Vágó, and many of his furniture designs were published in Tér és Forma, Hungary’s foremost architectural and design journal of the era, edited by Lajos Kozma. The design elements of this set – its materials, proportions, and aesthetic – clearly align with the style and craftsmanship seen in Vágó’s documented works. The rich, rust-colored upholstery adds warmth and depth, complementing the geometric elegance of the veneered walnut frame. This is a distinctive and collectible ensemble, ideally suited for refined interiors or historical collections. Condition: Good vintage condition with minor signs of wear. Structurally sound and visually striking. Dimensions (per armchair): 90 × 80 × 85 cm Provenance: Attributed to Pál Vágó, Hungary, 1930s
