A peculiar and original German Fat Lava ceramic jug, it has a simple yet innovative and modernist shape. The glaze was obtained by spreading a single dark brown colour tending to black over the whole body, then the beautiful and seductive white decoration was brought back with grace and elegance, covering the central part of the jug with a lively casting in pleasant contrast with the background colour; then the two colours were fixed by a final firing in the kiln. The mark on the bottom tells us that the object was made in a limited edition: the jug is No. 30 and 2007 is the model number. It was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden, (then in West Germany), an important centre of porcelain and ceramic production. 'Fat Lava' is the name given to a certain style of West German artistic ceramics that became popular in the post-war period and was characterised by an extravagant amount of typical shapes, glazes, textures and colours ranging from dark brown to orange, forest green to cobalt blue, ruby red to canary yellow. The production strategy of the craftsmen of this style involved rather simple and rigorous shapes that, by combining all the different decorations and coloured glazes, gave rise to a very wide range of pieces. Our jug has beautiful and harmonious proportions and, thanks to this strong personality, can be placed in any style of décor. The jug is in good condition, only in the central part there are small defects highlighted in the photos.
