Walnut and maple burl desk by W.M. Johnson & Son, 19th century
Writing Desk WM. JOHNSON & SON burl walnut and maple veneer, Sheffield ca. 1870. Shaped top with leather insert and gilded bronze ribbed edge, band with drawer and fake drawer on the long sides, ebonized fluted truncated cone legs adorned with gilded bronze inserts and connected to each other by curved crosspieces with a central shelf; pear-shaped feet. The decorative arrangement is completed by maple threads and floral inlays in maple and mahogany. Mahogany and fir interior. Inside the drawer there is the original label from the manufacturer.
