Vase from the Pezzati series by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini, 1998. Made of Murano glass using transparent glass tiles in the colors straw, red, sapphire and green. The Pezzati were presented at the XXV Venice Biennale in 1950 where they were a great success and became perhaps Bianconi's most famous and representative work. In making them, the tiles, made from a strip-crushed and cold-cut reed, were arranged in a mosaic pattern and introduced into the kiln where, due to the effect of heat, they welded together to form a glassy fabric that was then worked into the desired shape. Fulvio Bianconi was an Italian designer and graphic artist as well as a great glass designer for Venini; his genius gave birth to many of the most beautiful Murano glass vases, works that are sought after and collected all over the world. The vase is in excellent condition, has no defects and has a slight patina due to time. It bears the inscription "Venini 98 Fulvio Bianconi" engraved in point under the base. It also presents a dedication to the previous owner that for privacy will not be shown.
